PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A 53-year-old man shot his son during an argument in his Pomona Park home Tuesday night, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
PCSO responded to the 100 block of Silver Beach Boulevard around 11:30 p.m.
Clay Jernigan, the father, stated he was awakened when his 30-year-old son, Tyler Blair, began yelling and banging on the walls.
Jernigan arose from bed and was confronted by his son, who was allegedly irate after drinking a large amount of tequila.
Police say Blair threw Jernigan around and began beating him. Jernigan suffered multiple bruises, scrapes and a shoulder injury.
When Blair walked away, Jernigan seized an opportunity to grab a .22 caliber rifle, according to the police report.
When Blair returned and become violent, Jernigan shot at Blair. Jernigan rendered first aid to Blair and called 911.
Blair was taken to UF Shands by air ambulance. Jernigan was taken to Putnam Community Medical Center.
Both Jernigan and Blair are in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Potential criminal charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
