BALDWIN, Fla. -- A man was shot twice in the arm Monday night during a dispute with a retired JSO Officer at a Baldwin car wash.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Chris Brown said the argument started at a car wash on S. Lima Street around 8 p.m.
Former JSO Officer Andrew Straitt Sr. was washing his car when he was approached by Joseph S. Smith, 50. Smith allegedly started an argument with Straitt Sr. about a past incident in which Straitt yelled at him for driving too fast, according to the incident report. Straitt then told Smith to leave.
Smith went home and returned with a knife and allegedly threatened to kill Straitt. The former Officer, who is a concealed weapons permit holder, pulled out a gun and fired three shots -- two of which hit Smith in the arm, Brown said.
Smith was treated at a nearby fire station and was taken into custody.
JSO is interviewing witnesses who were at the car wash.
Smith has been charged with aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon.
