JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Three boys are being questioned by officers after they were seen throwing homemade explosive devices in a Northside neighborhood.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the boys were throwing exploding plastic bottles filled with liquid in the 1500 block of West 27th street.

One of the bottles was found inside a mailbox, according to JSO. Investigators do not know what was inside the bottles, but the JSO Crime Unit and the Bomb Squad are investigating.

Two of the boys are middle-school-aged and one boy is in high school. No charges were filed, but charges may be pending, according to JSO. All three were cooperating with JSO.

Lilla King, the grandmother of a 12-year-old being questioned by JSO was not happy.

She says he knows right from wrong.

"There's a consequence for everything. There's a consequence for him for being there. Even though he didn't do it, but he was a part of it. So, there's a consequence for that. He will be disciplined to the highest."

JSO said the told them they learned how to make the explosive devices in science class.

No injuries were reported.
