JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department engineer has accused Fire Marshal Kevin Jones of using the "N-word."

The complaint alleges it happened while Jones was discussing plans for the Welcome to Rockville Concert Festival.

"I know Kevin, I don't think it was meant in a malicious way or anything like that," he said. "Obviously using, President of the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters.

The complaint is now in the hands the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. They'll investigate to find out if the word was used, and if it was, in what context.

Chief Martin Senterfitt wasn't available for an interview with First Coast News. He told our news partner The Florida Times-Union if the word was used, disciplinary action will need to be taken.

This is the latest in a string of complaints dealing with race and JFRD. Federal lawsuits going several years back are still active. Many of them over promotions. Wyse said it's not a sign of a bigger issue in the department.

"There's not a big race issue out there," he said.
