JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The U.S. Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon assisted a 16' vessel taking on water near the Mayport Jetties.

The Coast Guard was first alerted around 2 p.m. that the boat was taking on water about two miles north of the Mayport Jetties.

A rescue crew assisted the three people on board the disabled vessel. The rescue crew also helped to de-water the vessel around 3:15 p.m. and tow it back to the Morning Star Marina.

First For You, the Coast Guard recommends you have the following items in your boat before you hit the water:

-Life jackets for each person on board
-A VHF radio tuned to Channel 16, which the Coast Guard consistently monitors
