A suspicious package caused some tense moments at the Jacksonville Landing Saturday evening.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville Landing was partially evacuated Saturday evening and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office bomb squad was called out.
Cergihno Garcia was one of the people evacuated.
"I was scared. I was afraid because I've never saw that before in my life," he said.
Garcia was working in the kitchen of Chicago Pizza, he said police came in and said
"You need to evacuate the building," he explained.
Garcia said he put food from the oven into a to-go box then ran from the restaurant.
"I was thinking it was exploding...a bomb is over here," he said as he described the moment.
Police said someone flagged down an off-duty officer Saturday evening saying there was a suspicious package on the sidewalk with no one around. Police got to the Landing and found a gym bag between two flower pots outside of the Chicago Pizza restaurant. Part of the Landing was evacuated and the bomb squad called out.
"No threats associated with this suspicious package," Lt. George W. Grant said.
More than a dozen officers were on scene working the suspicious package incident.
FCN could see what appeared to be a small robot going in the restaurant's direction.
"I guess it's usual for Jacksonville," Tamike Graham said. She was inside the Landing.
FCN asked her if she had any concerns.
"No," she said.
Lt. Grant said "My personal experience is we don't have any more now than we did 5 years ago. It's just going to happen every once in a while."
Cergihno said he's just glad no one was hurt.
"It's under control now, so I feel good," he said.
Saturday evening, police did not identify what was inside the package, but in a recap of the incident said
"Later, I released that the package was determined to be safe."
