JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Governor Rick Scott on Monday met with parents and students from Duval Public Schools to discuss the importance of making a college education affordable.

The governor on several times spoke about Senate Bill 1400 that would offer students of undocumented immigrants the ability to get in state tuition instead of now having to pay out-of-state tuition.

"We need to make sure it doesn't matter what country you come from, " said Scott during his discussion with eight students and their parents.

The bill which is stalled in the Senate would give students the ability to go to any school in Florida at in-state-tuition. There are some provisions in the legislation that requires students to have attended a Florida high school for three years prior to graduation and prove they are attempting to gain citizenship.

One mother told the governor what she faces having two students in college and the expense since they have to pay out-of-state tuition.
