JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man has minor injuries after his vehicle flipped off of an Interstate 295 entrance ramp and went into a retention pond.

Around 10 a.m., 76-year-old William Harry Maddox Jr. was driving a 2000 Cadillac Escalade on the entrance ramp of I-295 from J. Turner Butler Boulevard, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Maddox veered off of the left side of the road and over corrected, causing him to veer off the right side of the road and the vehicle to overturn.

While overturned, the Cadillac struck a palm tree and then turned right side up and went into the retention pond and began to be submerged in the water, the report detailed.

An FHP trooper was conducting a traffic stop at I-295 north and Gate Parkway when a witness reported that Maddox's vehicle went into the pond.

The trooper and two other witnesses helped pull Maddox from the vehicle through the back passenger door. Maddox had minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.
