JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Donavan Carr says he hopes to establish the Cannabis University of Florida by June in Jacksonville.

"Right now there's a growing momentum for people who would like to get into the business or help those who are on the compassionate care side," he said.

In the meantime, he's running informational seminars in the city.

"This gives them a little bit more insight by being able to go to a class and understand where this is going and what is going to be the impact on the economy," he said.

The cost is in the hundreds of dollars, and he's sold out for April. Voters will decide on the legality of medical marijuana in Florida in November. Until then, Carr says he's not doing anything illegal.

"We're not growing anything... we're just basically having seminars," he said.

He's hoping the seminars play a part in silencing critics.

"They feel that everybody's a stoner or it's just a matter of getting high, and it's not," he said.
