PALAKTA, Fla. -- A bird of prey got some assistance from a local man in getting airborne again.

Gary Jerrim of Palatka sent First Coast News photos of an osprey that was flapping around by his dock in the St. Johns River and wasn't able to get flying.

"Got the canoe, paddle, a rake, gloves and jacket (to protect myself)," Jerrim wrote in an email to FCN. "Fished it out and got it back to the shore. Sat with it for 15 min and then it took off and flew away. Felt good to help him out and I did not get attacked for my efforts."
