JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This week First Coast News is spotlighting Melissa Hewiett at Ramona Boulevard Elementary School in Duval County as Teacher of the Week.

Hewiett teaches third grade and says when she was a kid, she would line up her stuffed animals and teach to them. So she always knew she wanted to be a teacher.

Hewiett told FCN she knows the impact her teachers had on her life and she wants to be that positive force for her students. That is why Hewiett says it is important that teachers care about their students and want to see them succeed.

"Loving unconditionally and being willing to fight for the hearts of your students and just loving them no matter what. I think the students that need the most love show it in the most unloving way, so to remember that," said Hewiett.

She was also voted Teacher of the Year for Ramona Blvd Elementary School.

This is her fourth year teaching, so a big congratulations to Melissa Hewiett for being First Coast News Teacher of the Week! Thanks for all you do!
