LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A mother was taken into custody for a psychiatric evaluation after police say she tried to choke two of her children and pinned another one of her children to the ground.

A Lake City Police Department officer responded to Lake Jeffrey Road and found Kalandra Perry, 25, to be standing in the road and "screaming and acting hysterically," according to a release from LCPD Assistant Public Information Officer Mike Lee.

Perry told the officer she was going to kill her children and was holding two of them, ages 5 and 4, by their necks. The other child, a 1-year-old, was pinned on the ground between Perry's legs. The two older children lost consciousness while being held by Perry.

Additional officers responded to the area to help the initial officer, who was trying to free the children. Perry then bit the officer who initially responded under his side, the release detailed.

Police tasered Perry, at which point the children were freed from her grasp, and she continued to strike at officers. They were able to subdue her after tasering her again and spraying her with pepper spray.

The children only had minor scrapes and are now in the custody of their grandparents. Perry was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville for a psychiatric evaluation.

According to the release, a warrant was sent to the State Attorney's Office for review of charges.
