JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- After a nine day search, the Jacksonville Jaguars have their man.

"We got our man," Jags owner Shad Khan said. "I have a lot of faith in David Caldwell and I can assure our fans that the best days for the Jacksonville Jaguars are in front of us."

Khan sent a press release confirming the hire Tuesday afternoon.

Khan had three different interviews with Caldwell throughout the process, but Caldwell was also sought after by other teams including the New York Jets.

LateTuesday afternoon Caldwell decided on the Jaguars.

"I am thrilled to accept the offer to become the next General Manager of the Jacksonville Jaguars," Caldwell said. "There are no bad GM opportunities in the NFL, but to work on behalf of a dynamic owner in a rabid football city like Jacksonville is truly special. This is where I wanted to be and I could not be happier. I can't wait to get to Jacksonville and get started."

He will officially be introduced as the GM this Thursday afternoon at a press conference.

Caldwell has been in the NFL for almost twenty years including the last five with the Atlanta Falcons.

The Jaguars fired Gene Smith nine days ago after a 2-14 season.

They will pick second in April's draft.
