JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A local church is offering a $1,000 rewardfor information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for killing a Jacksonville teenager.

It happened in broad daylight around 9:45 a.m. Saturday morning in the courtyard of Landon Imperial Apartments on Art Museum Drive.

Witnesses told police that several people were rolling dice and gambling.

As they finished playing two individuals walked up and tried to rob them. Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Homicide Sgt. Shawn Coarsey said the teenager was shot during the robbery.

Bishop Terrance Calloway with New Life Cathedral Baptist church identified the victim as Ranod McKann, 16. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Monday confirmed that the victim was indeed McKann.

Calloway said he first met him about two years ago when he attended Wisdom Learning Academy.

Calloway said, "It's an atrocity and I just hope the city of Jacksonville will embrace the sentiments of what we are trying to do as a church, trying to step up in the community and trying to publicize the crime going on in our community and we need to put a stop to it."

Calloway's church is helping the victim's family pay for funeral costs, and he hopes those with information on the deadly shooting will come forward.

"We are not asking you to snitch. We are not asking you to be a hero. We are asking you to do the right thing because it could be your brother, your nephew, your grandson. It could be your own son" said Calloway.
