JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- What a total for just one day of donations! July 15 was "Combos for K9s" day at all Firehouse Subs restaurants in the Jacksonville area. People donated a dollar to receive a free drink and free chips with a purchase of a sub.

The total in just one day? Firehouse Subs' Jackie Gubbins says it was $4,940.

And more good news? The Weaver Foundation will double that amount effectively making the one day of donations almost reach $10,000.

Firehouse Subs helps raise nearly $5,000 for Operation Orion.

Operation Orion is raising funds for K9s for Warriors, a local non-profit which trains mostly rescue dogs to become certified service dogs for veterans with PTSD. The veterans come to live at the facility in Ponte Vedra and learn to work their custom-trained dogs. There's no charge to the veteran.

You can still give your loose change or make a donation in the locked, lucite boxes by the cash registers at all area Firehouse Subs. The campaign for Operation Orion at Firehouse goes through July 27.

That means we'll have another announcement to give the total raised over the month-long push from Firehouse for Operation Orion.
