JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Teachers, do you need protractors? Maybe some arts and crafts or books? You can get all those things for free on Friday. It is all a part of the Teacher Supply Depot's Back to School Giveaway.
"They can also get boxes of binders, boxes of hanging file folders and lots of assorted organizational things especially for new teachers just trying to set up their classroom," tells Chris Buckley, the organizer.
The rooms are like a teaching treasure trove. Each teacher can bring three canvas bags to pack with supplies as they move through and load up their cars with bigger items.
"As long as the weather is good, they will have a huge turn out," says Buckley.
She says this big event usually draws in between 700 to 800 teachers that will be elbow-to-elbow in the hallways filling up on supplies. Incredibly, all of the supplies are donated!
"We have 1,400 business donors and we pick up about 25 pallets of donations a week," tells Buckley.
So if you need a box of binders or an encyclopedia get to the event early and save yourself a lot of money.
The giveaway is only for Duval County Public School teachers and you must bring some type of school ID with you to prove you are a teacher. The doors will open at 1 p.m., but teachers can line up as early as they would like. Teacher Supply Depot is located at 3108 Lenox Avenue in Jacksonville. Buckley says organizers will be handing out numbers to people in line so teachers can look at some of the vendor booths beforehand without losing their place in line.
