Florida's annual Back to School Sales Tax Holiday kicks off Friday Lisa Robbins, First Coast News

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida's back-to-school sales tax holiday kicks off Friday at 12:01 a.m.

The three-day blitz can save savvy shoppers anywhere from 6-7 percent on clothing, school supplies, and computers at stores on the First Coast.

The rules are a little sweeter this year thanks to Florida legislators.

This year, the sales tax exemption is increased to $100 or less for most clothing, footwear, and certain accessories, according to the Florida Department of Revenue. The sales tax exemption for personal computers and certain computer-related accessories applies to the first $750 of the sales price when purchased for 'noncommercial home or personal use'. Certain school supplies with a selling price of $15 or less per item are also exempt from Florida's sales tax.

The holiday ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m.

Some business locations are excluded in the sales tax holiday including theme parks, entertainment complexes, public lodging establishments, and airports.
