JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --Off the bus is the punishment aDuval County middle student received for her role in attacking a classmate on a First Studentbus earlier this month.

The attackwas video taped on cell phone and showed a 13 year-old girl hit at least 10 times, according to a police report. The teenwho was hit missed a week of school, according to her parents, and had to be seen by a doctor for blows to her eye.

"The student has been revoked of the right to travel on the bus," said Superintendent Nikolai Vitti, who was disturbed by what he saw.

Vitti said the administrators at Eugene ButlerMiddle wanted to transfer theteenage girl who threw the punches to analternative school. Vitti said thatproposed action did not happen.

"If an incident was atthe school, we have more purview and options regarding discipline," said Vitti, whonoted policy for a school bus offensecannotresult in a student sent to an alternative school.

The bus company involved, First Student, ina statement said the driver was not aware of the incident that happened at a bus stop. Aspokesperson said the driver did receive additionaltraining.

Vitti said the district is still investigating the incident including whether the bus driver did what he was supposed to do.

The teeninvolved in the attack was arrested and faces battery charges.
