YULEE, Fla. – Three armed robbery suspects were nabbed in Nassau County after a car chase and police involved shooting.
Donnie McCoy Carroll, 28, Damonique Travon Gaddist, 18, and a 15-year-old runaway are behind bars after Nassau County Sheriff's Office dispatch received a call about an armed robbery at the Kangaroo Convenience Store at Harts Road and US-17 in Yulee at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were advised one of the suspects was allegedly armed with a shotgun and left the scene in a white Ford truck heading north on US-1
7. According to the release, the truck had been stolen out of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Deputies spotted the truck a short time later at US-17 and SR-200 and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the truck fled, the released detailed. The truck was described as being driven erratically and was traveling at a high rate of speed. The truck traveled through the intersection of US-17 and I-95, allegedly running over barricades that were set up for construction work. The truck continued north on US-17 until it reached the road closure for bridge work at the Florida/Georgia state line travelling through more barricades, according to the NCSO.
Deputies went around the barricades in their patrol vehicles, exited and attempted to subdue the three fleeing suspects. The truck reversed, tried to leave the area and ran down one of the deputies, who fired at the vehicle to try and get it to stop.
The other two deputies also fired at the truck after seeing the other deputy run down, trying to get the vehicle to stop.
Carroll, Gaddist and the 15-year-old tried to flee into the woods, but were captured, the release detailed.
The driver of the vehicle had a wound to his hand and shoulder and was transported to UF Health in Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the deputy-involved shooting and the robbery will be investigated by NCSO.
The three are also suspects in an armed robbery in Dorchester County South Carolina.
Charges they face:
Carroll – Accessory after the fact (Armed Robbery); Fleeing and eluding; Grand theft of motor vehicle; Aggravated assault on law enforcement officer with motor vehicle.
Gaddist – Armed Robbery; Grand theft of motor vehicle; Petit theft.
15-year-old – Accessory after the fact (Armed Robbery).
