JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was shot outside his home during an attempted robbery late Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred in the 1300 block of West 31st Street just before noon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The unidentified victim was shot several times and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

A suspect has not been identified and JSO is continuing to investigate the shooting.

The incident occurred in police zone 5, which is under Operation Ceasefire. The operation includes stepped up police patrols, an increase in the number of "walk and knocks", and talking to people in the community about how important they are to solving crime.

After a violent April, Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford announced an initiative to curb violent crime.
