JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 36-year-old has died following a shooting early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the 5400 block of Timuquana Road just after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, where they found 36-year-old Joseph Francis Baker who had been shot in the front passenger seat of a car, according a release from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Baker was transported to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition, but later died as a result of his injuries.

Investigators determined the shooting was sparked by an argument between the victim and Victor Harris Howell, 48, just a few blocks away on Catoma Street, police said. A friend drove the victim to a nearby gas station.

Howell was arrested and charged with murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm, weapon or ammunition by a convicted Florida felon.

Howell is currently being held in the Duval County Jail on a $75,003 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 11 at 9 a.m.
