PALATKA, Fla. -- Police responded to reports of shots fired in Palatka Thursday night.

According to a release from the Palatka Police Department, the shots were heard in the area of the 500 block of North 8th Street around 7:20 p.m. Officers arrived on scene and found 35-year-old Tavarence Clark with a gunshot wound to the back in the yard of a home on the block. Clark was transported to Putnam Community Hospital in stable condition.

Police spoke with witnesses who identified Nathaniel McDuffy, 40, as the shooter. A handgun was found at the scene, according to the release.

McDuffy was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail without bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
