ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A stabbing suspect is listed in serious condition after a deputy-involved shooting early Sunday, deputies said.
Reports of a stabbing brought deputies to a home on Sunrise Boulevard just after 3:30 a.m., where they found a woman who had been stabbed, according to a release from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
Deputy Todd Boger found a man armed with a large "fighting style" knife in the parking lot and shot the man after he ignored orders to drop the weapon, the release said.
The suspect, John Vincent DeSanto, was flown to UF Health Jacksonville. DeSanto, 43, is listed in serious condition, hospital officials told First Coast News.
It's not yet clear what charges DeSanto will face. He's been arrested more than ten times since 2005, according to the Sheriff's Office's website, on charges, including aggravated battery, fraud and resisting officers.
The stabbing victim was treated by St. Johns County Fire Rescue and is expected to be fine.
Deputy Bolger, a ten-year veteran with the agency, has been placed on paid leave, which is standard protocol, the Sheriff's Office said.
