JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police responded to UF Health Jacksonville after a 12-year-old was admitted with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The unidentified child was driven to the hospital by his mother after he was shot in the side of the knee outside a home in the 2000 block of W. Prospect Street in the Woodstock neighborhood, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Apelgren. JSO responded to the hospital at 2:21 p.m.

The victim's parents were home at the time of the shooting, but the child was outside, Sgt. Apelgren detailed. The child is talking to detectives, however no suspects have been named. Police are also investigating the possibility the shooting was accidental.
