TAMPA, Fla. -- A man convicted of killing two police officers has been sentenced to death.
A Hillsborough County judge on Friday affirmed a jury's recommendation that Dontae Morris receive the death penalty.
Jurors found Morris guilty last year of two counts of first-degree murder. That same panel later recommended unanimously that Morris should face the death penalty. The judge is not bound by the jury's recommendation, but he must give it great weight.
Morris killed David Curtis and Jeffrey Kocab during a traffic stop in June 2010.
Besides the police killings, Morris was previously convicted of an unrelated murder and is awaiting trial in two other murder cases.
