JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man was hospitalized after being shot at a Southside gas station Sunday afternoon.

Police responded to the the BP in the 3100 block of Phillips Highway at 3:45 p.m. after a man was shot at the gas station, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The unidentified victim was pumping gas into a one gallon container at the BP minutes before a late model Ford Expedition pulled up next to the victim. According to JSO, words were exchanged and the front passenger allegedly fired at least two times at the victim. The victim ran from the gas station to the Mt . Vernon Lodge on Phillips Hwy, about 200 yards away, police detailed.

The Expedition, which is missing the front bumper and has a spare tire on the front driver side, left the BP and headed North of Phillips Hwy to St. Augustine Road.

The victim was transported to an area hospital in life threatening condition.
