LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A 14-year-old boy was caught with marijuana and cocaine when the Lake City Police Department found him in the bushes after responding to a burglary Saturday evening.

LCPD responded to reports of a home burglary around 6 p.m. to the 380 block of SE Castillo Terrace. According to a LCPD press release, a resident informed an officer that a person was hiding behind a home.

The suspect ran when police found him hiding behind bushes. The officers caught him a short distance later and he spat in the officer's face, the release said.

Officers reportedly found 4.68 grams of marijuana and a small plastic bag of cocaine in his pockets.

The suspect had an active warrant out of Columbia County for violation of probation for absconding supervision and three burglaries. He is charged with burglary of a dwelling, battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of L/T 20 grams of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The teenager was transported and booked into the Columbia County Detention Center where he awaits pickup by the Department of Juvenile Justice, who was going to transport him to their Gainesville detention facility.

Chief Gilmore stated, "Our officers, with the assistance of our citizens, were able to catch this young man and prevent further crimes from happening that night, and the rest of the weekend. I want to continue to urge our citizens, if you See Something – Say Something. When you do, crimes get solved and thieves goes to jail."
