TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in the trial of a Tampa mother accused of killing her two teenagers.
53-year-old Julie Schenecker is charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty.
According to Tampa Police, Schenecker shot her son twice in the head in the family car "for talking back" as she drove him to soccer practice. The report says Schenecker then drove to their upscale home and shot her daughter in the face.
Court documents show that Schenecker suffered from mental illness for several decades. Her attorneys plan to use an insanity defense.
