83-year-old Charles Clark says he's lucky to be alive after he was stabbed and beaten while getting out of his car
Pinellas Park, Florida -- Pinellas Park police are searching for three young people they say brutally attacked an elderly man outside of his apartment on Tuesday morning.
83-year-old Charles Clark says he's lucky to be alive after he was stabbed and beaten while getting out of his car at Park Plaza, located along 76th Avenue North.
"He grabbed me and got a knife," Clark tells 10 News. He says he then tried fighting back. "I started hitting him."
"I heard him screaming, 'Get off me! Get off me!'" says neighbor Mark Lindsay, who was in his apartment when he heard the cries for help.
"I was yelling and telling him to stop," says Lindsay.
Police say the three suspects all fled on bikes when neighbors like Lindsay noticed there was trouble.
"[Clark] was stabbed multiple times," says Sgt. Adam Geissenberger, with the Pinellas Park Police Department.
Police have recovered the steak knife they believe was used in the attack. Surveillance video from a nearby 7-Eleven parking lot also shows two of the young suspects.
For this 83-year-old, he says he'll recover from his wounds, and can only hope that an arrest will soon be made.
"I think he needs a lot of jail time, because people who do this, they can kill someone. They could've killed somebody. I'm lucky, very lucky," says Clark.
Police describe the suspects as two teenage boys -- one in his early teens and the other in his late teens -- and a girl in her early to mid teens with a heavier build and reddish, brown hair which she was seen continually trying to stuff into a gray hooded sweatshirt.
