PALATKA, Fla. – A former corrections officer is behind bars facing charges of unlawful impersonation of a law enforcement officer.

Detectives with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Drug and Vice Unit arrested Joshua Stephen Gross Friday, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Gross was picked up after deputes investigated claims that Gross followed a victim home from the Palatka Wal-Mart on March 17. The victim told investigators Gross was driving a silver Nissan and approached him at his home claiming to be with the "drug unit." Gross allegedly refused to allow the victim to get out of his car and interrogated him about a supposed drug deal.

A witness was able to provide the Putnam County Sheriff's Office with a partial tag number for Gross' car, which helped investigator's track him down.

The victim and witness allegedly identified Gross as the suspect in photo line-ups.

Gross had previously worked as a correctional officer, but his corrections employment ended in 2003.

Gross is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail on a bond of $40,000.
