VOLUSIA, Fla. — A Volusia County woman is accused of stealing up to $100,000 from her wealthy elderly aunt, claiming she had power of attorney and was spending the money on the 96-year-old victim.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputies said their investigation shows Kathy Laderman was spending the money on herself, her husband and her son.

Authorities said Laderman illegally withdrew money over the last year from the victim's account and deposited it in an account the senior didn't know about.

Laderman allegedly made lavish purchases, including new furniture for the victim's home because the suspect was planning to move in when the victim died.
