JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is warning people about a false kidnapping scam.

Investigators say the scammers call people and demand money for the safe return of a relative, according to a JSO press release. Two victims told police they could hear screaming in the background of the calls.

Police have found the people that the scammers claimed to be holding, the release said. They were fine and had no knowledge of the phone calls.

Police have not been able to find a connection between the alleged victims.
