FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A 38-year-old man was jailed after he brought an unresponsive 2-year-old girl to the hospital.
Stanley Wykretowicz, 38, brought an unresponsive 2-year-old to the Florida Hospital Flagler emergency room Feb. 24, according to a release from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded to the hospital after doctors examined the child and found she was bruised from head to toe and needed to be air-lifted to Wolfson Children's Hospital in severe condition. The little girl was admitted and remains at Wolfson in critical condition.
Wykretowicz, the last person with the girl, was interviewed by detectives and claimed she had fallen in the bath tub on Sunday hitting her head on the spout and possibly on her bath toys which caused the bruising on her back and buttocks, according to the FCSO. Wykretowicz also claimed the same little girl had fallen while she was attempting to get out of the bathtub on Monday morning, hitting her abdomen on the side of the tub. Additionally Wykretowicz allegedly told detectives that he noticed that the child's abdomen appeared to be bloated, so he put his finger down the child's throat in an attempt to make the child vomit.
According to doctors, the 2‐year‐old girl needed abdominal surgery to repair a laceration to the colon and had severe injuries that appeared to be several days old and that those injuries appeared to have been caused by blunt force trauma, the release detailed.
Charges were filed against Wykretowicz and an arrest warrant was issued on Wednesday afternoon and he was taken into custody in Palm Coast just before 1 a.m. Thursday. Wykretowicz is facing charges of aggravated child abuse and neglect of a child causing great bodily harm and is being held at the Flagler County Detention Facility on $150,000 bond.
