JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 25-year-old Jacksonville man pleaded guilty to the distribution of child pornography.

A St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Detective was able to download three videos successfully from a peer-to-peer file-sharing network on July 3, 2013. The videos were downloaded from an Internet Protocol (IP) address that was registered to Sean-Michael Smith, according to a Department of Justice press release.

A warrant was served on Aug. 2 and Smith admitted to previously downloading and viewing child pornography. The release says, Smith also said he had been viewing child pornography for 10 years and admitted that whenever the file-sharing program on his computer was active, any content in the shared folder would be available for downloading by other users on the network.

Smith faces a mandatory 5 years in prison and up to 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing hearing has not been scheduled at this time.
