JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Columbia County Sheriff's Office responded to a robbery at the Shell station located at 3317 US Highway 90 W early Friday morning.

A man attempted to distract a store clerk by telling him there was a snake in the restroom while he stole items from behind the counter.

When the clerk came out of the restroom, he saw what 24-year-old Travis Ryan Pound was doing. After the clerk approached Pound, the suspect hit the clerk and then left the store with a bag of stolen goods.

Deputy Latimer arrived with K9 Zombie and began tracking the suspect based on the clerk's description.

The K9 was able to track the suspect at the Americas Best Value Inn. The deputy went into the lobby to find out if the suspect had been there and was told he had entered room 110.

The deputy found Pound inside the room and took him into custody.

Pound was charged with petit theft and robbery (no firearm or weapon)
