SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- One local mother is using the memory of her daughter and unborn grandchild to spread breast cancer awareness.
From the loss of two, comes a heart to help many and the paintings on Sherri Turner Bewsae's motorcycle explains her mission to fight breast cancer.
"Her nickname was ladybug, so that's for her and the baby," said Bewsae. "And, that's a halo for both of them."
Bewsae's daughter, Judeen Owens lost her battle with breast cancer ten years ago.
"[We lost her at the age of] 31 years-old and she was pregnant and we lost the baby too," said Bewsae.
Judeen was five months pregnant and a University of North Florida graduate with aspirations to become a lawyer.
After Judeen's death, Bewsae started Unity Outreach, an organization raising funds to help First Coast breast cancer fighters with co-pays, medicines, treatments and supplies.
"When you see a woman who is deciding whether or not to pay for her treatment or buy groceries for her kids or pay for the light bill, you can't say, no," said Bewsae.
Bewsae's love of motorcycles helps promote awareness. She organized a ride for motorcyclists Saturday, with a scavenger hunt to raise money.
Todd Robbins came out to support the organization.
"[Motorcycle riders are] a brotherhood of people who like to ride motorcycles and help out in the community and I think breast cancer survivors are in that same genre of people who pull together to help each other."
Rose says the organizations helped her after her diagnosis. She says she learned about Unity Outreach at a similar motorcycle ride, years ago.
"They helped me get back and forth with rides to chemo so that my husband could work," said Rose. "It just...it just took a big burden off of our family."
For Rose, Saturday's ride serves as a reminder of the help she's received and for Bewsae, it is a reminder that her daughter is looking down on her.
"[I think she would say] good job Mom," said Bewsae.
Unity Outreach is holding the 'Think Pink' Ride on October 11th for all riders.
