JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- A 4-year-old deaf child lost his hearing implant while swimming at Jacksonville Beach yesterday and now his family is asking for the community's help finding it.

Slayden was swimming in the shallow water near 37th Street in Jacksonville Beach South on Saturday when the cochlear implant went missing, his parents Jason and Lauren Wyse told First Coast News in an email Sunday.

"Our son Slayden can not hear out of his left ear without it," Jason Wyse said.

The device's warranty does not cover loss or theft. The implant would cost $10,000 to replace. But if the original device is found, the manufacturer would swap it out for a replacement, Wyse said.

If you find the implant, please contact First Coast News and we'll put you in touch with the family.
