Police say a child that either fell out of or was pushed from a moving car was found on the road and later died. The car did not stop. Police are now looking for the driver. VPC
Tampa, FL — A child that police say may have been thrown from a car and found on a roadway died early Monday.
Witnesses found Marterrance Albury, 4, in the middle of East 109th and North Florida avenues just west of Interstate 275 at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday, telling police that he came from a car.
The vehicle did not stop. Marterrance was transported to an area hospital in critical condition and died from his injuries a few hours later, authorities say.
"Obviously, we're looking at cameras up and down this stretch to see what we can find," Tampa Police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said. "We're just trying to figure out exactly how this little boy ended up in the road."
Video from area red light and business cameras has pointed to a green 2001 to 2004 Ford Expedition that may have had the boy inside, police say. They are seeking its driver now.
