OCALA, Fla. -- The man hit by a CSX train Tuesday night is in critical condition, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The unidentified man was struck along the tracks near Country Town Village Mobile Home Park just after 7 p.m.

Emergency officials were rushed to the area in the 2300 block of SW 3rd Avenue. They found the man, severely injured and according to witnesses, the man's legs were lying across the tracks.

Detectives were told by witnesses, the train's operator blew the horn multiple times to warn the man of the approaching train. The emergency brakes were also used to avoid hitting the man, but the train did not stop in time.

The man was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center.

The man's name has not been released pending family notification.
