2-year-old Clayton County girl who died after being left in a day care van for hours on a 93 degree day in 2011
ATLANTA (AP) - The Department of Early Care and Learning is reminding childcare providers and parents about the dangers of leaving children in unattended cars.
Officials said in a statement that a 5-year-old was left in a van in Macon Monday for more than four hours. Charges were also dismissed Thursday in a case involving a 2-year-old Clayton County girl who died after being left in a day care van for hours on a 93 degree day in 2011.
Department Commissioner Bobby Cagle said the agency will "take swift and decisive action when providers fail to comply with rules governing transportation."
Those rules include two adults checking childcare vehicles for children.
Cagle says there have already been 18 reports of providers leaving children in unattended vehicles this year compared with 17 in 2013.
