AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - Goodwill stores near Augusta are donating unwanted ammunition to the Richmond County Sheriff's office.

Store employees tell The Augusta Chronicle that that they have found an increasing amount of firearms ammunition mixed in with the clothes, toys and kitchen equipment that people donate. On Friday, one store donated more than 1,100 rounds to police.

The ammunition will be used in officer training or properly disposed.

Goodwill spokesman Barry Paschal said the store is happy to have the ammunition off its hands.

Sheriff's office Lt. Lewis Blanchard said the boxes of shotgun shells donated Friday will be useful during training and help the department save money.
