JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man traveling almost twice the posted speed limit died when his vehicle crashed into a tree in Palm Coast Saturday morning.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, Robert Thomas Cronin, 62, was driving a Toyota Camry at a "high rate of speed" east on Whiteview Parkway around 3:25 a.m.
Cronin's vehicle drove off the road and onto the median were he lost control. The vehicle then spun out and hit a tree.
Cronin was traveling around 80 miles-per-hour in a 45 mph zone, according to FHP.
No other vehicle was involved in the crash.
According to FHP, Cronin was wearing his seat belt and alcohol related charges are pending.
