Macon, GA (SportsNetwork.com) - Mercer University football coach Bobby Lamb announced the addition of three FBS transfers on Wednesday as the Bears prepare to transition into the Southern Conference this year.
Mercer added safety Zach Jackson from TCU, wide receiver Derek Owings from Eastern Michigan and offensive lineman Alan Posey from Tennessee. Jackson and Owings have three seasons of eligibility remaining, while Posey has two.
In addition, Lamb said offensive lineman Zac Rice of Newberry High School in Florida has joined the three transfers in the program as an early enrollee.
"These four players will step in and make us better right away," Lamb said. "Having skilled players with experience under their belts at some great institutions will add a great mix to our young program."
Mercer is coming off a 10-2 season, setting the NCAA record for victories by a start-up program. The Bears spent their first season in the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League.
