LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A Lake City woman was enjoying a quiet party with her family Tuesday, the night before Christmas. Her brother and boyfriend were there with other family members talking on the front porch. When she walked inside, for reasons unknown, her brother jumped on her boyfriend and stabbed him in the stomach multiple times, according to police.
After a four day search, Corey Tyrell Barnes, the brother accused of stabbing Tony Anthony Matchett, was caught by Lake City Police with the help of a K-9 bite to his butt.
When LCPD officer Louis Toroino arrived on the scene Christmas Eve he found Matchett, 53, bleeding in the front yard of a home in Lake City. Toroino applied emergency first-aid for several stab wounds until EMS arrived and transported Matchett by air lift to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, according to LCPD.
Stacey A. Johnson, the girlfriend of the victim, told police the man who stabbed him and fled the scene was her brother.
Johnson was cut trying to break up the fight, according to LCPD.
K-9 HELPS ARREST SUSPECT
Police said they received a tip that Barnes, 27, was at his home at the Windsong Apartments Saturday. When officers arrived they found him hiding on the floor of a green Chevrolet Caprice in a nearby parking lot, covered with a blanket.
He refused to get out when ordered by police, according to LCPD, so officers broke the window and opened the door.
When Barnes still refused police released "Memnoch", a K-9 unit.
According to police, the dog bit Barnes on his buttocks and officers were able to detain him.
Barnes was treated for minor cuts from the broken glass and the bite before being placed under arrest and transported to the Columbia County Jail on charges of attempted homicide and resisting arrest.
He is being held on $250,000 bond.
Matchett, the victim, remains in the hospital in stable condition, according to LCPD.
