ORLANDO, Fla. -Officials are investigating after an Orlando police cruiser hit and killed a person riding a bicycle.

Authorities said the crash happened at about 7:30 p.m. on South Kirkman Road, just south of LB McLeod Road.

The officer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Witnesses told investigators the officer traveling in a marked vehicle was "not at fault for the crash and was traveling at normal speed." The speed limit on the stretch of Kirkman Road is 50 mph.

According to investigators, the victim is an adult.

There is no crosswalk in the area of the crash, however there is a right lane marked explicitly for bicycles.

OPD's Traffic Homicide Unit is conducting the investigation and they've yet to specify where exactly both the bicycle and the cruiser were traveling.

The victim and the officer have not been identified.
