RIVERVIEW, Fla. -- Deputies have arrested a teenager after he attempted to kidnap a child from a home in Riverview.

Shortly after 10 p.m. on December 20, deputies were called to a home on Windermere Lake Drive in response to an attempted kidnapping. Reportedly, a woman heard a noise in her home and found an unknown teenager in the bedroom holding her 5-year-old child. The suspect had smashed through the window using a tennis shoe.

After a short struggle, the woman was able to grab her child and push the suspect out of the window. The suspect fled the scene and deputies, along with aviation, searched the surrounding area and were met with negative results.

The suspect later returned to the scene and was stopped by deputies. Deputies arrested the 15-year-old suspect for burglary of an occupied dwelling and attempted kidnapping. The suspect was also on felony probation and is also charged with violation of probation.

The suspect lives with his family in the apartment above the victim's apartment and he stated that he moved in last week.
