BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. --Two years ago in the third grade, Cody Ellison was diagnosed with something that would terrify even the toughest adult, a tumor in his brain.

"I was like what are they going to do, how are they going to get the tumor out?" said Cody.

He immediately underwent surgery followed by radiation. Through it all Cody's mother, Erika, says he was a trooper and his thoughts were always about others.

"He worries about everybody else before himself," Erika Ellison said with a smile.

He missed much of the 3rd grade school year due to his treatments, but he was not forgotten by his Bradford County classmates. His teacher that year, Cheryl Atkinson, says even the high school football team was behind him!

"They got some things together like t-shirts and took it over to him," she said.

Memory loss was a big concern after his surgery, but incredibly Cody says he hasn't had any memory loss. He was back in school the next year, even getting 2nd place in Lawtey Elementary School's spelling bee!

"He is always happy, always positive and you could not ask for a better student than Cody," tells Cody's current teacher Stephanie Scott.

Now in the 5th grade, one day Cody says he hopes to become a professional baseball player. In the meantime, he is inspiring other students at Lawtey Elementary.

Whenever they ask how he made it through the diagnosis and treatments he tells them this.

"Just hope, I thank the Lord who helped me keep all my memory," said Cody with a big smile.

Cody's father also had cancer, but is now in remission.

A big congratulation to Cody Ellison in Bradford County for being our Student of the Week!
