NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- A fire burned an RV to the ground and left a retired firefighter dead Thursday.

It happened around 3 a.m. at the Oak Springs neighborhood.

Rubble, debris and ashes are left behind from an early morning fire that took the life of 64-year-old James Trezzi.

Neighbors described Trezzi as a kind man and said that he lived there alone.

"We'll be sorry to you know not see him anymore," said neighbor, Mike Bradshaw.

Bradshaw has a place two doors down from Trezzi and recently returned from Canada. The snowbird is still in disbelief.

"Never imagined it would ever happen," said Bradshaw.

Bradshaw explained that he got a knock on his door around 2:00 Thursday morning. The fire was so fierce he and several other homes were evacuated.

"Everybody down there including the office were told to get out," said Bradshaw. "I assume these people down here."

Many have speculated about what may have led to the fire and Trezzi's death.

"We knew he smoked quite a lot and someone said he smoked in bed," said Bradshaw. "I'm not sure if that was true or not."

Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire. So far there is no indication of foul play.
