LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Good news for Lake City residents: the number of burglaries dropped in the first half of the year compared to last year.

The bad news? Thefts and domestic violence crimes have increased, according to a recent report.

Overall, crime dropped 3 percent in the first six months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012.

The Semi-Annual Crime Report released Tuesday by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement details reported crimes committed in Lake City from January to June each year.

"We are encouraging our citizens to be vigilant in reporting suspicious persons orincidents in their neighborhoods and businesses. Additionally, our crime prevention officer is working withneighborhoods and community groups to educate them on how not to be a victim of a crime of opportunity.Together we can make our community a safer place to live, work, and play," Chief of the LCPD Argatha Gilmore said.
