TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Some Florida lawmakers are pushing to split classes up by gender.

They want to separate boys and girls in elementary schools.

The bill calls for the Department of Education to administer a pilot program for two school years starting in fall 2014 and again in fall 2015.

A report on how the students performed would follow the program.

Legislators will take up the bill next year.
